4-Foot 22W T8 Tube Product Description
The Viribright 4-Foot 22W T8 (ft.) Ballast Bypass LED is high powered choice for installation in retrofit fixtures requiring 4ft. linear fluorescent tubes. These tubes will commonly be found in workshops, offices, grocery stores and convention halls but its brightness is on the higher side of its category. This tube must be used without a ballast (direct wire) which reduces overall energy consumption of the fixture. The total energy consumption of this tube is 22W while producing in excess of 2900 lumens in 5000K and 6000K color temperatures. These tubes are easy to install, but it is recommended to have a certified electrician handle the bypassing of the ballast and installation. This tube is also available in convenient packs of 10 or contractor packs of 25.
Important Information on 4-Foot 22W T8 Tubes
- Compatible with T8 & T12 fixtures. Simply take out the Ballast for retrofitting.
- Use shunted or non-shunted tombstone for T8 tube install.
- T12 tubes don’t need tombstone change (1.5″).
General Information about T8 LED Tubes
22W T8 tubes are high powered and generally manufactured in three types although the ballast bypass version is the most common type sold in the US. These being the hybrid, the ballast bypass, and the plug-and-play. Unlike the others, the easiest to install is the plug-and-play variant. These can be easily plugged into compatible fixtures. However, it’s best to ensure that the ballast is compatible.
Compatibility details should be found in the Details tab of the products page. Direct wire lamps or the ballast bypass tube requires you to first remove the old ballast. For the most part, this eliminates future ballast maintenance and failure point issues.
However, the fixture may require some rewiring if it is either a double-ended or single-ended operation. Double-ended tubes are known for requiring power on either end while single-ended ones revolve around just one side needing power. When it comes to hybrids, these are simply a unique combination of the other two previously mentioned.
The LED tubes on this one begin as plug-and-play where the ballast eventually becomes unusable. When this occurs, the fixture becomes a bypass lamp. Hence, the ballast is removed and the lamp is rewired to suit the new ballast.
Tips For Choosing the Right Tube
When it comes to choosing the ideal tube, it is recommended that you first check the ratings, color temperature, and certifications associated with the tube. If you didn’t already know, the temperature is measured in Kelvins and is a representation of the light’s color. Those located between the 3000 to the 3500 Kelvin range are ideal for creating warm areas.
In essence, they create the perfect waiting or lobby area. Tubes between 4000 and 5000 Kelvins aid with increasing visibility and significantly reducing eye strain. These are suited for warehouses, classrooms, offices, and hospitals.
The certifications and ratings on these will give a better idea of where and how they can be efficiently and safely used. Those rated as dry location tubes should only be used in an indoor setting and should not be in contact with moisture or water. However, caution should still be taken for 22W T8 tubes that can be used in the presence of moisture. As such, they should never make contact with liquids.

These LED T8 tubes replaced the T8 tubes in the fluorescent fixtures installed in the ceiling of my wife’s quilting studio. We believe these LEDs are brighter than the fluorescents when they were new. Instructions for bypassing the ballast were straightforward. I chose the Type B (ballast bypass) because I found out that all “plug and play” (Type A) tubes do not work with just any electronic fast start ballast. I will install these LEDs in the fluorescent fixtures in my shop.

These work so well out of the box that I use them to diagnose faulty fixtures. We are converting a whole church full of 4′ fluoro tubes, and this is the best price/quality product found thus far. (A volume discount would be nice, but is not available.) Don’t bother trying to use LEDs with existing ballast transformers, as it will eventually go bad anyway. Just remove & rewire the fixture (relatively easy & straightforward).

I used these to convert old florescent lights for my garage. They provide good light. My housings do not have diffusers and the bulbs I bought were clear, so I mounted the the bulbs with the LEDs pointing up towards the housing. The helps me from accidentally looking directly at the LEDs.

As expected, units installation was easy and brightness was as expected. Longevity and efficiency are to be determined. I was most pleased that none of the units were broken when received.

Can’t believe I didn’t covert to these sooner. I previously had bought the LED replacement lamps that would work with the ballast, but then the ballast started acting up and I had to do something. Remove ballast, change or modify the tombstones and use these lamps. DONE. Now I’m lighting up the garage & laundry room better than daylight. I’m telling everybody.

Fast ship, bright replacement for fluorescent. These are a direct 110 v powered bulb, so you can remove the old ballast and connect the mounts direct to 110 – 120 v power. In addition, you need half the number of bulbs and you will get a greater brightness. It’s a dramatic power savings of approx 80% overall.
Debra Botts –
These lights really brightened up my workshop and garage bays. It is daylight in a workshop that before had shadows from the fluorescent lighting.
James Buford –
Very good quality! Very bright and very easy to install.
Leopoldo Hoskins –
The shipment is fast, installation is easy, and light is bright. I was trying to replace the starter, but found it’s less expensive to just buy the LED light, also saves energy. Highly recommended!
Son Pritchett –
Removed my ballast and florescent bulbs in my kitchen fixture. Had to do some simple rewiring of the light to install the led bulbs. Much brighter and cost less to operate. About to do the same in my laundry room.

I have purchased approximately 350 4 foot 22 watt tubes in the last 6 months for a commercial business. I have to say that I have not had a single failure. The price is right, the warranty is 5 years. I am very happy with the service and quality of the tube.
